Delighting in God's Word (part 2) - A Healthy Appetite

"Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts." (Jeremiah 15:16)

Here I go again, talking about food. Anyway, a healthy appetite is a wonderful gift from God. The truth is that if a person has an appetite he will enjoy even a piece of bread and water. On the other hand a person can have a lavish spread on the dinner table but because of a poor appetite, he cannot appreciate the meal. This illustrates how we ought to desire a healthy appetite towards God's Word. First, Salvation brings this appetite to the soul. An unsaved person, one who is not "born again" (see John 3:1-7), cannot appreciate what God has spread in front of him because he is spiritually dead (Eph. 2:1). Simply put, dead men don't eat. Secondly, hard work tends to work up an appetite. Study the Bible. Be a serious student of the Word. As you labor in the Word, you will grow in your love for the Bible. The more you get in The Book, the more you will delight in The Book. Dear friend, how goes your appetite for God and His Word?

I appreciate how Jeremiah 15:16 clearly defines God's word as containing God's wordS... I've enjoyed reading your blog - great to find another Baptist blogger!
